Guest Talk - Air Cdr Rick Peacock Edwards
RAF Coltishall Heritage Centre
Admission: £20 (incl refreshments)Booking essential (link at bottom of page)
Educated in the UK and South Africa, and a former Royal Air Force Air Commodore, Rick Peacock-Edwards enjoyed a distinguished career as a fighter pilot, flying the Hunter, Phantom, Tornado — and the iconic English Electric Lightning.
This summer at RAF Coltishall, Rick will share first-hand insights into flying the Lightning, one of Britain's most formidable Cold War interceptors.
Drawing on his operational experience, he will explore what made the aircraft so unique to handle and operate, the demands placed on its pilots, and the vital role it played in the defence of UK airspace.
With personal stories from the cockpit and reflections on the era of Quick Reaction Alert, this promises to be a fascinating and evocative talk for aviation enthusiasts and historians alike.

RAF Coltishall 20th Anniversay Event
RAF Coltishall Heritage Centre
2026 marks a very special milestone — the 20th anniversary of the departure of the last Jaguar squadrons and the closure of RAF Coltishall as an active Royal Air Force station.
To commemorate this occasion, we’re planning a special event on Sunday, 28th June 2026, celebrating Coltishall’s proud history from 1940 to 2026.
It promises to be an exciting day for all ages, with activities, displays, and stories honouring the people, aircraft, and legacy that made RAF Coltishall so remarkable.
This is an early notice to save the date, and more details will follow in due course — so stay tuned!

Admission: Donations to the museum
This lesser known, but rather significant airfield has a fascinating history, displayed over several rooms of the Heritage Centre.
From it’s involvement in WWI where the largest of the RAF’s bombers, the four engined Handley Page V/1500, graced the field; through to it’s involvement in the development of the Hawker Siddeley Kestrel, the story of RAF Bircham Newton and it’s satellite stations is well told. The room dedicated to WWII and Costal Command is of particular note.
For more information regarding open days and stories about the former RAF Station please visit our Facebook page, simply search RAF Bircham Newton Heritage Centre or click the link below.
